Seventeen health and social care professional organisations throughout Europe have launched a joint commitment to promote falls prevention initiatives for people living with mobility impairments. Dyskinesia – a common symptom of Parkinson’s – often causes patients to suddenly fall, risking injury, while medication can also increase the possibility of fall-related injuries.

This international pledge made by organisations including EuroSafe and HEPA Europe will lay the foundation for consistent EU-wide fall awareness and prevention services. The aim is to eliminate falls – and the injuries they cause – as an inevitable health threat of advancing Parkinson’s.

The organisations recognise that strength and balance play a crucial part in falls prevention and safe movement. Therefore the joint action plan emphasises the need to encourage physical activity, which is important for keeping healthy and active.
