In 2024, Parkinson’s Europe worked with other important stakeholders (the European Federation of Neurological Association, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and pharmaceutical company AbbVie) to develop a joint Call to Action on Parkinson’s healthcare aimed at European policymakers.

This Call To Action has so far been endorsed by 11 national Parkinson’s organisations, and was officially launched on World Movement Disorders Day in November 2024.

We are calling for a commitment to improving healthcare services for people with Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative conditions in Europe, and a pledge to make progress in the following three key areas:

  • Recruitment and retention of doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals who treat people living with Parkinson’s
  • Establishment of the professional profile of neurodegenerative nurses in all European healthcare systems
  • Prioritising the adoption of innovative therapies and technologies to optimise timely access to care and supporting efficient and sustainable healthcare systems, notably in hard-to-reach geographical areas.

You can download and read the Call to Action, and read more about this project.

We are continuing to raise awareness of this Call to Action and working with European policymakers, to demand better healthcare services for people with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions in Europe.

The Call to Action has been signed by the following Members of the European Parliament, whom we warmly thank for their support and commitment:

We are looking to gain support from patient advocacy and civil society organisations, as well as individuals, from all over Europe. So please sign our pledge – add your name below to show your support and help us create a critical mass!
