Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world.

With this in mind, Parkinson’s Europe is committed to ensuring that people with Parkinson’s and their families have access to the highest standards of treatment, support and care they need to live a full and comfortable life.

To commemorate our 30th anniversary in 2022, we worked with the Parkinson’s community to develop a manifesto that aims to shine a light on what is important to people living with Parkinson’s – their hopes, dreams and ambitions – and ensuring that their voices are heard.

We hope that this ‘wish list’ will help shape the Parkinson’s agenda in Europe over the next 30 years, guiding those working in health, research, and policy on what truly matters to those living with Parkinson’s.

How we created the Parkinson’s Manifesto for Europe

As well as taking the latest findings from Parkinson’s campaigns and reports into consideration, we also sent a Europe-wide survey to the Parkinson’s community – in nine different languages – collecting responses from almost 1,000 people in 39 countries.

The results of this survey were used to frame a series of workshops in early 2022 to further refine the manifesto’s key themes and wishes.

Next steps

The aim of this manifesto is to help shape the Parkinson’s agenda in Europe, guiding those working in health, research and policy on what truly matters to the Parkinson’s community.

Communicating the final manifesto was only the first step in our goal to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s Europe’s next steps will be to identify the gaps, challenges and areas of good practice relating to each of the key areas outlined in this manifesto.
